RSC Bulletin: October 2021

 RSC Bulletin

October 2021

  • Happy October Birthday to Marlene Mendes (10/6), Jaime Fields (10/10) and Alissa Keophilavanh (10/17).
  • Staff Updates
    • We are in the process of interviewing for a full time position at Ogden House in Wilton and a split position for St. Monica's and Ida B. Wells in Hartford
    • We are also looking for a part-time position for Glen Ayre
    • We have several interviews pending but encourage anyone who has a recommendation to send in a resume.
  • Vacation Time Updates
    • Please keep in mind that there will not be a vacation time pay-out for 2021.  You may have 75 hours as a carry-over balance with the 2022 front-loaded time.
    • Please submit for vacation time you may be utilizing between now and December 23rd as soon as possible.
  • COVID Booster Clinics
    • Thank you for the continued information on the COVID booster clinics.  Please continue to keep me updated with planned clinics at your sites.
    • Make sure Admins, Regionals and your Board members are aware of upcoming Booster Clinics so that they may obtain a third dose if needed.
    • Remember that many providers are requiring a head count prior to confirming a clinic date; it is important that we provide an accurate head count and not increase numbers to obtain a confirmation.  If you cannot meet a minimum number of attendees, consider bundling with another local EHM site.
  • RSC Reports (and the new information)
    • Many of you did great in remember to provide Rent status information on your monthly reports.  Please continue to do so!
      • As a refresher, if a resident is out of the unit and/or hospitalized and/or in short term rehab, please provide the following rent payment information
        • Is rent being paid?
        • If not, what is the last month that rent was paid?
        • If yes, who is paying the rent?
      • You can obtain the above information from your management office.
    • Length of Stays
      • Any resident out of the unit for more than 30 days
        • Please provide the rent information detailed above
        • Provide a last known update... this should be recent to the report.  Many updates state a family member reports resident remains in rehab but the update was obtained months ago... RSCs should be contacting the resident, family, and/or social worker at the facility monthly to obtain status updates.
        • Reach out if you have questions or concerns.
    • Turnover Risks
      • You do not need to provide information on residents that have passed away or have officially given notice and turned in the keys
      • We are looking for information related to:
        • residents that are in short term rehab but may transition to long term care
        • residents that have mentioned an interest in long term care and/or moving to alternate housing and/or moving in with family
        • residents with care givers or facility staff that are reporting the resident is not returning to the unit but have not given notice.
      • Reach out if you have any questions.
  • Complete File Review
    • We had 85% Compliance with the Complete File requirement... this is great but it is down from last year!
    • If you did not have a Complete File this year, please take the time to review your Complete File quarterly and request confirmation of Complete File status at your two Quality Assurance Reviews
  • Quality Assurance and Standards for Success Submission
    • I should have the completed QA Addendums and Redacted QA Surveys out to you by the end of the week.
    • Please sign the addendum and return it to me via scan as soon as possible.
    • All Addendums and Surveys should be added to your HUD QA (not your internal QA that came with your PAR) to your Green Binder.
      • The previous year's HUD QA can be removed and filed.
  • Personal Note:
    • Since we have not met in person for over 18 months and it does not seem like we will be able to meet in person for quite some time, I'd like to do a digital version of our "New and Good"  (don't groan and sigh too loudly now).
    • If you have something you would like to share with the group, I will attempt a regular blog update that's not all to-do's and instructions and simply share good memories with the group.
    • For this month, please send something fall related to my email address... this could be some of these new babies (and not so new babies) in their Halloween costumes (I will most definitely be showing you my baby shark) ... your pets in their Halloween get-ups or a general "yeah for me" item that you would like me to add to the blog.
    • We usually get to share a meal and some information when we get together so I'm hoping this will allow for some positive vibes and good will while we're still 6-feet apart!

Thank you for your continued hard work, your dedication to our residents, and your flexibility and teamwork as we continue to navigate the challenges this year has to bring.

Charlie, Marlene and I will work on a small Medicare Open Enrollment info sheet soon.  We will distribute sometime this month.  If you have specific questions regarding Open Enrollment, you have not completed CHOICES training, or you have concerns with a specific insurance issue, please reach out!

Stay safe and wash your hands! 👋
